A Tale of Two Stories

Reading this article by Cristopher Hitchens, and then seeing the results of a Google search for "Karr Benet Murder", and then listening to Rush yesterday brings it all full circle.

For those of you that missed Mr. Limbaugh on Tuesday, he compared the media outrage over how they were "duped" by John Mark Karr to the lack of outrage over how the Media was duped by Joe Wilson, and the mainstream press.

Consider this:  Someone comes up with a fabricated story. Gets in front of the media to claim the fabricated story is the truth.  Media rushes to judgement, and believes the fabricated story is true, without doing proper journalistic background work.  Evidence starts to come out that the original story might not be true.  Media downplays this evidence.  Story is investigated, and is proved to be a fabrication.  Media goes nuts on how they were given this bad story to begin with, that was clearly full of holes.

Now I ask you, why isn't the Media being as angry about "Plamegate" as they are about John Mark Karr?

They have always contended that the reason Valerie Plame was "outed" was as a form of retribution for her husband speaking out against the Bush Administration.  Now that we know Wilson lied (fabricated the story) when he wrote his Op-Ed piece (gets in front of the media), the media responded by pushing the ""Bush lied, people died" bumper sticker (media rushes to judgement).  The talking heads on the cable shows accept Wilson as their new hero, pushing his fabricated story without looking into it too deeply, while Patrick Fitzgerald begins his 2 1/2 year investigation, and only one person in the Administration gets in trouble, not for leaking, but perjury.  Arimitage comes out as the person who "leaked Valerie Plame in the beginning.

Don't the two stories have the same basic trends?

Where is the outrage?
