Because she just got away with murder. Again.*ahem*, alledegly.
With just the information I read in the article, my pressing questions are as follows: If the baby truly was delivered stillborn, why did she throw the body in a dumpster? Wouldn't you have called an ambulance after you "suddenly" delivered your baby, and it wasn't breathing? (I'm making the assumption that she delivered someplace other than a hospital) Were you alone when you delivered? And if so, how much time passed between your water breaking, and the baby left your body? Why didn't you call 911?
The defendant had a similar thing happen back in 2004:
According to the Los Angeles Times, Ashcraft was investigated in 2004 for similar charges after she showed up at Good Samaritan Hospital having recently given birth, but without a baby.
She said the baby was stillborn, and police could never find the baby's body to verify her claim, the Times reported.
So she has a "history" of delivering a stillborn child (at age 19, in 2004), and she gets pregnant again (at age 20). Wouldn't you think as delivery day approaches a second time, you would be a little extra cautious to ensure a safe delivery? Or would you just "take your chances", and if things don't work out a second time, just toss the body in a dumpster?
This "lady" needs to take some responsibility, and quit getting pregnant. I won't even get into how in either case there was no father identified.
By the way, the hospital is less than a minute from where the baby was found.
Plenty of additional info on Ms. Ashcraft can be found by doing a simple Google search.
