Halfway home..

Detroit wins Game Two by the score of 3-0.  Osgood has pitched two consecutive shutouts, and the Penguins have gone 135 minutes since their last playoff goal.  History is on the side of the Wings, as 30 of the 31 teams to take a 2-0 lead in the Finals have hoisted Lord Stanley's Cup.

Game Three is Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

One down, three more to go..

The Red Wings take the first step in obtaining their 11th Stanley Cup, beating the Pens 4-0.  Detroit sat Franzen (again-how bad can that head be hurting?!) and Chelios, and still managed yet another four-goal night.  Osgood looked more like Osgreat, pitching another shutout.  The Wings clearly were more productive on offense, getting almost a 2-1 advantage in Shots on Goal.  Detroit scored on a power play, a shorthander, as well as two "regular" goals.  Game Two is Monday night in Detroit.

Go Wings!

Hey, hey, Hockeytown!

The Red Wings got it done, beating Dallas 4-1 in Game Six to head back to the Stanley Cup Finals for the fourth time in eleven years.  The Wings will be looking for their 11th Stanley Cup.  Draper scored a goal with his face, the Wings skated great, Zetterberg gets a shorthanded goal, and Ozzie stood on his head in the final period to seal the deal.

Red Wings doing their part to help the economy..

By having a Game Six, the Detroit Red Wings are doing what Government can't.  They are helping people, and the economy.  Think of all the people who work at the arena, taking tickets, selling concessions, cleaning up.  Then think of all the sports bars, where fans flock to watch the game.  Waitresses, busboys, bartenders.  Think of the quantity of dollars exchanging hands.  That's why there is a Game Six.  Not because Detroit can't put away pesky Dallas, but because they are doing it for the Community.  The Country.  The kids.  Game Six is tonight in Dallas.

Back to Motown..

The Wings scored a goal with a guy barely in the crease (if he was even in there at all), which got disallowed.  The Stars score a goal with a guy clearly in the crease, which was allowed.  Go figure.  The Wings get their streak snapped, and get to go back to Detroit to wrap up the Series in front of the fans at The Joe.

Another day..

Another hat trick.  From a different Red Wing, this time.  Pavel Datsyuk gets three goals in tonights game, a 5-2 Detroit victory.  It was a "must win" for the Stars, who now are looking at a 3-0 deficit.  Detroit has now won nine in a row, best in the NHL postseason since 1993.  Game Four is in Dallas on Wednesday.

Different team, same result..

The Red Wings put a whuppin' on Dallas in Game One, winning 4-1.  At least a certain goalie in Colorado can sleep easier, knowing he's not the only guy in net that gives up four per game.  Dallas showed up for Game Two, but still lost 2-1.  Detroit tried to make it more of a contest for the Stars, as they sat All-Playoff stud Johan Franzen (he had concussion-like symptoms.  Maybe his head hurt, trying to add up all the goals he's scored in the last month?).  Game Three is tonight, Franzen will sit this one out as well (interestingly, a certain Stars player, who lost his composure, and swung a two-hander at Detroit goalie Chris Osgood after the game on Saturday will be in the lineup).

How good are the Wings this series?  They have lead 105.07 of the 120 minutes played, and been tied for 14.53.  For readers in Tucson, that means that Dallas has had the lead for not quite a minute.  In two games.  History doesn't look good for the Stars.

Looks like it's Dallas..

The rested Red Wings will get the Stars after Dallas won a marathon, 4 OT game 2-1 to close out the Series.  The Wings were 3-1 this season against Dallas.  Game 1 is Thursday at The Joe.

Who's next?

Detroit puts an old school beat-down on Colorado, winning Game Four in a rout.  Johan Franzen shows the Av's how it's done, getting his second hat trick of the Series (for those of you in Tucson, a "hat trick" is when a player scores three goals in one game).  Franzen now has 11 goals in the postseason.  In a positive note for Colorado, Jose Theodore only gave up three goals in this game before getting yanked.

Wings go up 3-0..

Last night was a nail-biter.  I've always felt that Game Three of a best-of-seven matchup is the critical game.  If you are tied at 1-1, it marks the point one team begins to pull away.  If it's 2-0, the team with no wins is in desparation mode, and anything can happen.

The Avalanche looked fresh, energized, and ready to put on a show for the hometown fans.  Colorado scored first, and I figured the Series would be 2-1 by the end of the night.  Detroit has had a problem of letting teams get back into Series.  I've said that this team is different-that the younger players that haven't had a sip from the Cup have kept the veterans in games.

Last night was no different.

The Wings scored two goals in less than a minute to deflate the Avalanche balloon, and came away with a 4-3 victory.  I'm still scratching my head why Theodore was in net for Colorado.  He has given up 13 goals in three games.  Your backup has played great every time Theodore has gotten pulled.  Last night was a "must win", and your starter gave up 4 goals.  Again.

I think the Avalanche will win the next game, and then lose the Series in Motown.  Well done, Wings.

Note to the Avalanche..

If your goalie is on the right side of the net, and you see a sweater (for those of you in Tucson, in hockey, a "jersey" is referred to as a "sweater") with the name "Franzen" on it, beware.  Note how similar these photos are.  One was from Game One, the other Game Two.  Both offer the same result, a Wings goal.

Wings go up 2-0..

The Winged Wheel looked magnificent today-Detroit chases Theodore (again), and Franzen nabs a hat-trick.  Wings win 5-1, and head to Colorado for Game Three.

Colorado makes it interesting, but Wings win Game One..

Detroit jumped out to a quick three-goal lead, but then let the Avalanche back in it.  Osgood makes a nice save with less than 10 seconds left, and the Red Wings go up 1-0 in the Series.

On to Round Two..

The Red Wings got it done yesterday, pitching a 3-0 shutout to win their opening round series against Nashville.  The Wings will have to wait and see who their opponent is going to be in the second round.  I'm hoping it won't be the Av's, so we get a more exciting Final..
