Sun Devils win ugly, now 3-0

Recap of Arizona State beating Colorado 21-3 here.

My Devils looked a step off on offense, but solid on defense.  They escape their first trip to Boulder with an ugly win.  I hope they can get their act together during practice this week, as the next three games will truly test the mettle of this team.

The things about this game that made my stomach hurt?
  • 11 penalties by the Devils
  • turnovers that shouldn't have happened
  • a lack of killer instinct by the offense

The things I liked?
  • the defense really stepped up and made plays
  • secondary play was incredible.  The Buffs only attempted 1 pass over 10 yards
  • special teams play on punts was nice-1 block, 2 fumbles
I think ASU might go up a spot or two in the polls, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see them stay where they are.

For the record, I did predict ASU would win by at least 10.  See post below!

Change the rules, or lose the war..

This piece in the New York Post sums it up perfectly, I think..

This photo is of the Taliban funeral, taken from a US drone.  Can someone please explain the logic of why we didn't send in an air stike?

ASU vs. CU Preview..

 Photo

We are getting closer to the game up in Boulder this week, and wanted to give those college football fans a little sneak peek into the game..

ASU comes in at 2-0, while CU is 0-2.  The programs seem to be headed in opposite directions, which is why I am scared.  I've never been a big fan of ASU head coach Koetter, and games like this (which look like easy ASU wins on paper) generally have a way of biting him on the backside.

I think ASU will win by at least 10 points.  Our passing attack is relentless, and big plays will be given up by CU.  The intangible here is how much heart the Buffs have.  Next week they travel to play Georgia, which is almost a given to be a loss. Can the Buffs get up to pull out a victory at home, and redeem themselves for their feeble start?

I will spend much of this game pacing nervously, regardless of the lead my Devils have.

Interestingly enough, this is the first time these schools have played each other.  I would think that based on their geographical location, this would have been somewhat of a regular matchup..

Here is ESPN's preview of the game..

Murtha coming to Colorado Springs to help a Dem get elected..

Details here.

Think having the guy who wants us to pull out of Iraq right now campaign for you in Military-friendly Colorado Springs is a good idea?

Me either.

How to make a childs fear of heights even worse..

Hmmmm...  maybe try jumping off a bridge with her, to show her nothing bad will happen?

How do you think that might turn out?

Not so good.

I had this idea years ago..

..but realized it would never work as intended.  Making a drunk-driving-proof car sounds great, but there is no way to escape the "human" factor.

What would stop the drunk driver from getting someone sober to blow in the straw?

The bad guys are always several steps ahead of the rest of us.  Maybe if drunk driving laws were tougher, and not plea bargained down so often, people would get serious.

Colorado foreclosures lead the Nation again..

This article in the Denver Business Journal is somewhat scary.  My guess is that the number of foreclosures is directly tied to all of those folks who have ARM or interest-only mortgages.  I also think people are over-extended way too much.  It doesn't take alot to send people into financial trouble these days.

I do have a great mortgage guy for re-fis, if anyone needs one..

So long, Air America Radio, we hardly knew you..

Hard to believe Air America is almost dead.  They haven't been on the airwaves for too long, and it's no surprise to me they that can't make it.

I listen to the hosts on Air America from time to time, to remind me of why the Left is so wrong.  It is amazing to listen to Ed Schultz and Randi Rhodes, and hear the anger that they spew.  It seems that callers, regardless of how whacked out their comments are, are rarely rebuffed by the hosts.

i actually think AAR has provided a great service to our political landscape.  Whenever I meet someone who considers themself "Independant", I suggest that they listen to a few segments of an Air America Radio host, then listen to a few segments of "our" side, like Hugh Hewitt, Michael Medved, or Rush.  Then ask your friend which hosts' audience they most resemble.  It's a slam dunk.

The Left trying to buy market share reminds me of a pro sports owner that opens his wallet, and tries to "buy" the best players available.  Typically, it never works.

Looks like it didn't work for Air America, either..

Nice gesture by the 49ers..

Last year, the San Francisco 49ers were playing the Broncos in a preseason game.  Towards the end of the game, a 49ers player collapsed in the locker room.  He later died.  The player, rookie Thomas Herrion had made a promise to his mother: if he made the team, he would buy her a house so she could move out of her 1 bedroom apartment.

The 49ers, his teammates, and the NFL Players Union made good on that promise.

A fellow Conservative needs your support..

I'm sure regular readers of Townhall blogs are aware of the exchange on ABC's "The View" this morning.  Rosie O'D waited exactly one day after the anniversary of 9/11 to start spewing her anti-Bush rants.

The lovely and talented Elisabeth (the only Conservative on the panel) was once again left on her own to absorb deranged opinons, and try to rebuff.

Take a second and send Elisabeth an e mail here, and let her know you appreciate what she is doing.  I can only imagine how she must feel on that set, sitting next to those morons.

Here is a link, so you can watch for yourself..

More progress on finding a cure for Diabetes

Good news from the University of Colorado.  Looks like we are getting closer to finding a cure for Diabetes.  The little Duper is currently involved in a similar study, TEDDY.  She has a doctor visit every quarter, where they take a blood sample and review everything she has eaten and drank in the previous three days.  She'll be in the program until she is 18, and hopefully the info they learn will advance the findings from the CU study..

Abu Ghraib update..

The U.S. Forces turned over the infamous prison on September 1.  This article provides some info on conditions there now that the Iraqis are in charge.

A few excerpts from the article:

"The Americans were better than the Iraqis. They treated us better," said Khalid Alaani, who was held on suspicion of involvement in Sunni terrorism.

The witness said that even in the thieves' section prisoners were being treated badly. "Someone was shouting 'Please help us, we want the human rights officers, we want the Americans to come back'," he said.
