A perfect example of how words matter:

Read this story on the economy from Reuters and then read this story on the economy from Breitbart.  Heck, even print them out, and put them side by side.  The info is essentially the same, yet one paints a picture that makes the reader feel the information presented is bleak.

How can anyone with any intellectual honesty say that the MSM doesn't have an agenda against this Administration?

It just seems so obvious that it is impossible for the MSM to report anything that would give Bush credit for anything good.

A few quick examples of how both news agencies report the same info:

Rueters titles the piece:  U.S. employers add moderate 128,000 workers in August
Breitbart titles the piece:  Jobless Rate Dips in August

Rueters says:  U.S. employers added a moderate 128,000 workers to their payrolls in August, in line with expectations
Breitbart says:  The tally of new jobs last month was slightly stronger than the 125,000 that economists were forecasting.

Reuters says:  Average hourly earnings rose a scant 0.1 percent, or 2 cents, last month.
Breitbart says:  Workers' average hourly earnings edged up to $16.79 in August, a 0.1 percent increase from July.

The Incredible Shrinking Man-UPDATE

Well, the day is finally upon me.  I have the Body For Life book, printed out my progress charts, and have the fridge stocked with the food.

Monday begins the 12 week process to drop this spare tire around my waist.  I'm looking to get down to 200 from the 223-225 I'm carrying now.  The plan is actually quite similar to the weightlifting plan I used in college, so I know it works.  The diet portion requires 6 smaller portions during the day, with 2 of the meals coming from EAS protein shakes.  I bought a few of them last week to make sure they tasted ok, and they are actually quite good.

My plan is to take weekly pics along with weekly weigh-ins to track my progress.  I'll make sure to link to shutterfly so you all can see my physical changes..

Wish me luck!

Will we see apologies all over the Sunday News Shows?

I'm betting probably not.  Now that we know Armitage "leaked" Plame's name, will we see all of the TV talking heads retreat their claims that "Bush Lied, Peole Died"?  Hello?  Tim Russert?  Chris Matthews?  Keith Olberman?  Hello?  Anyone from the New York Times?

Hello?

I do heap large amounts of praise on the Washington Post-They now see Wilson for what he is, a liar.  Must sting for them to have to say that, eh?

My boys start off 1-0

My #24 ranked Arizona State Sun Devils started off the football season the right way, with a victory in the desert over the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks.  NAU gave us a scare early, scoring 14 points on two big plays.  The second half belonged to the Devils tho, effectively shutting down the run, and scoring 21 unanswered points.  It was also a nice victory, as one of my neighbors went to NAU and I would have heard it had my boys lost.

Good job, Devils.  Work on the secondary for next week, and then it's on to Boulder to face the Buffs in game #3.

Where was this guy when I was bartending?

When I was in the business, we all wondered if stuff like  this really happened.  Seems it does!

A Tale of Two Stories

Reading this article by Cristopher Hitchens, and then seeing the results of a Google search for "Karr Benet Murder", and then listening to Rush yesterday brings it all full circle.

For those of you that missed Mr. Limbaugh on Tuesday, he compared the media outrage over how they were "duped" by John Mark Karr to the lack of outrage over how the Media was duped by Joe Wilson, and the mainstream press.

Consider this:  Someone comes up with a fabricated story. Gets in front of the media to claim the fabricated story is the truth.  Media rushes to judgement, and believes the fabricated story is true, without doing proper journalistic background work.  Evidence starts to come out that the original story might not be true.  Media downplays this evidence.  Story is investigated, and is proved to be a fabrication.  Media goes nuts on how they were given this bad story to begin with, that was clearly full of holes.

Now I ask you, why isn't the Media being as angry about "Plamegate" as they are about John Mark Karr?

They have always contended that the reason Valerie Plame was "outed" was as a form of retribution for her husband speaking out against the Bush Administration.  Now that we know Wilson lied (fabricated the story) when he wrote his Op-Ed piece (gets in front of the media), the media responded by pushing the ""Bush lied, people died" bumper sticker (media rushes to judgement).  The talking heads on the cable shows accept Wilson as their new hero, pushing his fabricated story without looking into it too deeply, while Patrick Fitzgerald begins his 2 1/2 year investigation, and only one person in the Administration gets in trouble, not for leaking, but perjury.  Arimitage comes out as the person who "leaked Valerie Plame in the beginning.

Don't the two stories have the same basic trends?

Where is the outrage?

A great piece to quiet your Democrat friends

Can be found right here.  Larry Elder, for those of you who aren't familiar, is a writer from South Central Los Angeles.  He really hits the nail on the head in the linked article.

Print it out, and put it in your back pocket.  When your Democrat friends that suffer from BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome, for those of you in Tucson), start grinning with glee at the prospect of winning seats in Congress, have them read the article to see where the Democrat leadership really stands.

And then there were 6..now 3! UPDATE: It's Ted!

Thanks to the tireless work of several intrepid bloggers, it look like there are just 6 Senators left that will neither confirm or deny if they are the one with the "hold" on a new bill that demands transparency in pork projects.  If you are from one of the states listed, PLEASE get on the phone, and find out if your Senator is the one holding things up.

My money is on the "gentleman" from Alaska, by the way..

(h/t: Flip )

UPDATE:  Now down to 3 Senators, all of which are Republicans...   I'm still betting on Alaska..

UPDATE II:  This post from Flip confirms it is Mr Stevens from Alaska.  When is this guys term up, anyway?

Two Years of Marriage

Today marks the second anniversary of the day the fetching Mrs. P and I got married.

Thanks to my wonderful, beautiful wife for a fantastic life.  Each day truly is beeter than the last..

We had a small ceremony at the Wildflower Garden in Crested Butte, attended by about two dozen family and close friends.  We did it the right way, by renting a large ski lodge that had 5 rooms/baths, a hot tub, pool table, big screen TV/DVD, computer, and a fully furnished "apartment" in the basement that slept another 7 or 8.  It worked out great to have everyone there in one spot.

My family came up from Arizona, the fetching soon-to-be Mrs. P had Mr. and Mrs. Geno in from Delaware, her brothers and their wives in from Maine and South Carolina, her bridesmaid and husband came in from Virginia, and my best man came in from Arizona.  We also had a few friends from Denver make the drive up, and also one of my college buddies in from California.

Of course we brought the dogs!

We arrived a few days before the ceremony after making a convoy-type drive from Denver the Crested Butte with the majority of the guests in tow.  We enjoyed dining, shopping, a nice horseback ride, and everyones company for the 4 days we were up there.

The ceremony itself was fantastic-we were blessed with a gorgeous day, and even tho the minister had to marry us twice (long story, but he forgot to do part of the vows!), everything went off without a hitch.

All in all, the weekend went too fast, and we all got back to our busy lives.  We like to look at the pics from time to time, and remember what a fun weekend it was two years ago.

Thanks for making my life complete, Mrs. P.

I love you!

A "must" book for Conservatives

As I was driving back from Steamboat with the fetching Mrs. P and the little "Duper", we had Mike Rosen on as we came down the hill.  He had the author of this book on.  It sounds like a great book-the author takes the most common Liberal "arguements", and addresses them by referring to the facts.  Rosen (in typical Rosen style!) took one caller, "Steve" to task on Affirmative Action.  I will making a trip to Barnes and Noble this week to pick up a copy.  I'll let you know how it is!

There is a link on Rosen's page that allows you to download the show.  I believe he had the author and "Steve" on in hour #2.  It's worth a listen.

Nancy Pelosi has a Gary Hart moment.

Came across this article on Nancy "Don't mess with me" Pelosi this morning.  Made me think about what happened when Gary Hart told reporters "Follow me around. I don't care. I'm serious. If anybody wants to put a tail on me, go ahead. They'll be very bored." Perhaps Nancy has forgotten she has a few skeletons in her closet?  Look here and here for a few samples..

Was the dog named "Toonces"?

People really should get a clue.  Everyone knows dogs would rather ride motorcycles.

For thos of you who recognize the name "Toonces", but can't quite place it, "Saturday Night Live" ran a series of skits back in the early 90's, featuring "Toonces, the cat that could drive a car".  They always ended up with Toonces driving the car off a cliff.  Good stuff!

Was Russell Crowe invited to participate?

Look here for details. You know Vegas would have had him as the early favorite if he had been.

Flashback here.
